Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release
PORT CHARLOTTE--Coming off a three-game sweep over last place Bradenton, the Stone Crabs were the second hottest team in the league. Friday night however, the Stone Crabs ran into the hottest team in the league as the Miracle improved their record to 8-0 on the season with a 6-4 win.
For the second straight start Jesse Hahn threw three innings as he works back from an injury, allowing just one run over the first three innings.
Jake Floethe followed Hahn, and threw well for the second straight game, but two pitches in the sixth inning decided the game for the Miracle.
With two outs and a 1-2 count on Adam Pettersen, Floethe hit him in the upper arm, loading the bases for leadoff hitter Angel Morales. Down 0-2 in the count, Morales ripped a double to center, scoring Matt Koch, Jhon Goncalves and Andy Leer, giving the Miracle a 5-1 lead.
"After the first outing between both those guys, some expect it every night and it is hard to repeat that," Williams said. "Jesse battled those three innings, Floethe really didn't pitch that bad, but those two pitches was the difference in the game."
The Stone Crabs offense continued to be red-hot over the last four games, pounding out four runs on nine hits, but the undefeated Miracle proved to be too strong in the end.
Stone Crabs outfielder Kyeong Kang remains the catalyst of the offense over the last week, finishing the game 2-for-2 with two walks. Kang is 7-for-11 including six walks over the last four games and is showing a much-improved plate discipline this season.
"(Kang) I hope he stays hot, he is swinging the bat well and is getting good pitches to hit," Williams said.
The Stone Crabs drop to 3-4 on the season and host the Miracle again on Saturday night. Williams sends Ricardo Gomez (0-1) to the mound, while the Miracle counter with Madison Boer (0-0).
Saturday night is also Disabled American Veterans Night and our first fireworks spectacular of the season. For tickets or more information call 941-206-HITS, visit StoneCrabsBaseball.com, or check us out via social media on Twitter: @StoneCrabs, or on Facebook: Facebook.com/CharlotteStoneCrabs.
