Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release
PORT CHARLOTTE--Throughout this series the manager Brady Williams was looking for timely hits from his team. Thursday night at Charlotte Sports Park he got his wish as the Stone Crabs cashed in three times with two outs in the inning, sweeping the series from Bradenton, 7-4.
Hector Guevara led off the two-out scoring for the Stone Crabs when in the third inning he ripped a double to center field, scoring both Kyeong Kang and Jake DePew, tying the game at two.
Bradenton took the lead again in the fourth inning on an RBI double by Carlos Mesa, however the Stone Crabs offense wouldn't let that lead stay for long as Alejandro Segovia took the first offering from Marauders pitcher Kyle Kingham and hit a three-run home run, giving the Stone Crabs a 5-3 lead.
" We want to see three-run home runs every night," Williams said. "These guys can do it, it's just getting the right pitch to do it with. "When you are working counts getting quality at bats through the line up it allows everyone else to get a better pitch to hit."
For Segovia, it was his first home run of the season and the Stone Crabs first home run hit at Charlotte Sports Park. The home run was Segovia's only hit of the night, but the Stone Crabs needed it when it happened.
Bradenton inched one run closer, 5-4 in the sixth inning, but as the Stone Crabs came up again in the bottom frame with two outs, Jake Hager roped an RBI double to center, scoring Kang to take a 6-4 lead. Guevara followed Hager with a single to center which brought his second baseman home, giving the Stone Crabs a 7-4 lead that would be the final outcome.
Felipe Rivero earned his first victory of the season, allowing three runs on seven hits over five innings, while striking out five Marauders.
"His (Rivero) tempo and rhythm got better as game went on, it was good to see him bounce back from last outing," Williams said. "Sometimes you lose your feel feel out there, tonight he really focused on throwing strikes, and he did what he wanted to do."
Rivero started off slow on the mound but he finished just as he wanted, striking out the Marauders in order on just ten pitches in the fifth inning.
"I feel better than I did last time, my arm feels better now," Rivero said. "I just kept working those five days and I got it now."
The Stone Crabs improve to a 4-3 record on the season and host the Fort Myers Miracle for two games here at Charlotte Sports Park beginning Friday night. The Stone Crabs send Jesse Hahn (0-0) to the mound while the Miracle counter with RHP Madison Boer (0-0).
Friday night is Date Night at Charlotte Sports Park, for $40 couples can watch the game from a suite filled with beverages and appetizers.
