Camden Riversharks News Release
CAMDEN, N.J. The Camden Riversharks invited four players to Spring Training after the team hosted open tryouts this past Saturday.
Under the supervision of Manager Ron Karkovice and coaches Chris Widger and Brett Bonvechio, nearly 100 hopefuls took part in drills and competitions at open tryouts with hopes of landing a spot on the roster for the upcoming season. Jordan Ellis, Nicholas Tyson, Wander Nunez and Burt Reynolds were granted invites to Camden's Spring Training upon the completion of the tryouts.
Right-handed pitcher Jordan Ellis, a West Chester, Pa. resident and Villanova University alumni, will vie for a pitching spot with the Riversharks after he was released from the Philadelphia Phillies organization in March. Ellis started playing professionally with the Phillies in 2008 and played for the Reading Phillies in 2011.
Nicholas Tyson, a right-handed pitcher and Blackwood, N.J. native, will join the Riversharks at Spring Training with hopes of beginning the fifth year of his career. Tyson graduated from Timber Creek High School and played in the Milwaukee Brewers organization from 2007 to 2010.
The Riversharks also extended invites to outfielders Wander Nunez and Burt Reynolds. Nunez began his career in 2010 with the Washington Nationals organization. He recorded a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage during his time with them. Reynolds was drafted by the Washington Nationals in 2006 but made his professional debut with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2008. He spent all of 2011 and 2012 with the Newark Bears. At just 22 and 24 respectively, Nunez and Reynolds are two of the youngest players to receive invites to Camden's Spring Training.
"Jordan Ellis is a perfect example of player looking for a chance to return to the game at a high level," said Adam Lorber, the general manager of the Riversharks. "If you look at our roster coming into Spring Training, the professional backgrounds of our players are a testament to the kind of quality talent the Atlantic League attracts."
