Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers (0-1-0) came back from a goal down to tie FC Edmonton (0-1-0) 1-1 in front of a raucous crowd of 5,201 at historic Lockhart Stadium. David Foley scored for the Strikers on his debut to give the home team their first point in the 2013 NASL Spring Championship season.

The match didn't start off according to the script for the hosts when the defense was caught napping just a quarter of an hour in. Shaun Saiko whipped in a cross from the left, and debutant Wes Knight beat the Strikers defense to the ball to open the scoring with a headed shot. Edmonton took the 1-0 lead into halftime.

The turning point of the match was the introduction of Walter Restrepo in the second half. His entrance into the game sparked the Strikers attack. It was Restrepo's first game action since tearing his ACL last season, forcing him to miss the final seven games of 2012.

David Foley scored the equalizer with a long-range effort, beating Lance Parker with a high shot into the far corner. The Strikers pressed for a winner, but the goal did not come.

The Strikers are on the road for the next match, taking on the Atlanta Silverbacks on Saturday, April 13. The team returns home on April 27 for a Florida Derby match against the rival Tampa Bay Rowdies. For all game information and times of matches, visit Strikers.com.
