The SwampDogs are pleased to announce Nick Marek as the voice of the team for the 2013 season. Nick Marek is a rising senior studying journalism and massÃÂ communication at Arizona State University. Despite going to school outÃÂ west, Marek has lived in Chapel Hill since he was four years old so heÃÂ understands what North Carolina baseball is all about.
While at Arizona State, Marek co-founded the Walter Cronkite Sports NetworkÃÂ (WCSN) with a few of his peers and he is currently the Vice President of the broadcasting department. The WCSN is a group ofÃÂ aspiring sports journalists who cover ASU athletics. The SwampDogs newest broadcaster used his club to produce a variety ofÃÂ print and online sports stories. He is also one of the websiteÃÂ managers of Cronkite Sports.Lastly, Marek is a featured baseball, hockey, and football writer forÃÂ House of Sparky, a Sports Blog Nation affiliate.
"I am so humbled to be a part of such a prestigious team in theÃÂ Coastal Plain League and I cannot wait to start working with theÃÂ Fayetteville SwampDogs," Marek said."We've been very fortunate in Fayetteville to have an incredible group of broadcasters in the past," said SwampDogs general manager Jeremy Aagard. The Fayetteville SwampDogs are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, entering their 13th season in the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 17th season in 2013, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 55 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
