Knighthawks News and NotesMarch 4, 2013 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) - Rochester Knighthawks
With the score knotted at 11 in the fourth quarter, Rochester forward Cody Jamieson beat defenseman Joey Cupido one-on-one, sliding underneath the defense for a clear shot on net. Colorado goaltender Dan Lewis bit on Jamieson's faked shot to his left, leaving an open net for "Jammer" to net the game-winner.
"They just vacated that bottom spot and I knew with some speed I could get inside," said Jamieson, who finished with a season-best four goals and was named the game's MVP. "I was shooting short side a couple of times throughout the game so I gave it a fake there. He bit pretty hard."
Johnny Powless completed the hat trick 4:40 into the second quarter, and has now extended his goal-scoring streak to 14 regular season games. It was the first hat trick of the season for the 19-year-old.
The Knighthawks have now won three consecutive games on the road, with their only road loss of the season coming in Week #1 in Washington. Following a bye week, the team will return home to The Blue Cross Arena for three straight games in Rochester.
Coming off of a regular season bye, the Knighthawks have a 26-14 all-time record. However, after a bye in Week #2, they dropped a 14-13 decision in the final seconds at home against Buffalo.
On Saturday, March 16th at 7:30 p.m., the Knighthawks return to action against the Edmonton Rush in a rematch of the 2012 Champion's Cup.
Trailing 5-1 at halftime against the Rush, Rochester roared from behind to win the franchise's third league title by a final of 9-6. It will be the first of two meeting this season between the East and West's 2012 Divisional Champions.
Dan Dawson, Jamieson and Matt Vinc had their best performances of 2012 against the Rush. As a member of the Philadelphia Wings, Dawson earned a season-best nine assists and 11 points in a 16-15 win over Edmonton. Jamieson was named the Champion's Cup MVP after an eight point (4+4) performance. Vinc, who leads the league in saves, save percentage and goals-against average, posted his best save percentage of 2012 in the title game against Edmonton.
For the second time this season, the Knighthawks will don special jerseys. Rochester will be wearing camouflaged jerseys which are being auctioned off to raise money for the Seneca Waterways Council Boy Scouts of America. The auction, presented by GoBuyRochester.com, began on March 2nd and will conclude at the game against Edmonton on March 16th. Fans can place their bids online or at the GoBuyRochester booth during the game.
