La Crosse Loggers News Release

LA CROSSE, WI - The La Crosse Loggers baseball club announced today that a key cog from their 2012 Northwoods League Championship team will indeed be returning to La Crosse for a second summer. Right-hander Jonathan Van Eaton signed a contract this past week, making him the third pitcher from the University of Memphis that will be dawning the Logger green this summer.

Van Eaton was the guy the Loggers turned to in the ninth inning last summer when he tied a franchise record with 14 saves in a single season, a total that was good enough for third in the entire NWL. The Arlington, Tenn. native also led the Lumbermen with 26 appearances while posting a 2.96 ERA and striking out 27 batters in 27.1 innings pitched.

The 6-2, 205 pound right-hander also mans the ninth inning duties for the Memphis Tigers, which he did very well in the spring of 2012 as well. Van Eaton appeared in a school record 30 games and had a 1.58 ERA with eight saves for the Tigers last spring. He also has past experience in the Coastal Plains summer collegiate league as he led the Martinsville Mustangs in 2011 in appearances (24) and saves (6) while going 1-2 with a miniscule 1.74 ERA over 31 innings pitched.

Van Eaton and the rest of the Loggers will open their 2013 campaign on May 29 when they travel to Battle Creek, Mich. to take on the Bombers. The 2013 home opener is set for Sunday, June 2 when the Loggers play host to the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters in a 5:05 p.m. affair at The Lumberyard. Season tickets are on sale now at the Loggers ticket office (1225 Caledonia Street, La Crosse) or by calling 608- 796-9553. Fan can also find more ticket information at www.lacrosseloggers.com.
