Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Getting Back Home

The Black Hawks return to Young Arena Saturday after three consecutive games on the road. The Hawks will not play more than back-to-back contests away from Waterloo for the remainder of the regular season. When the Black Hawks host the Green Bay Gamblers this weekend, the home team will be seeking a fourth consecutive win on friendly ice, which would match the longest such run in 2012/13. However, Waterloo travels to visit the Gamblers first on Friday. Green Bay has played six of their last seven games on the road, but a steady 13-5-1 record at the Resch Center has helped the Gamblers overcome a difficult start. After opening the season 1-7-2 overall, Green Bay has not been defeated in consecutive games since October.

Stenglein Steps to Century Mark

J.T. Stenglein's shot on goal in the opening minutes of the third period Saturday created a rebound which Ryan Papa put into the net. The resulting assist for Stenglein was the 100th point of his USHL career. Of the now-101 points Stenglein has recorded, 21 have been amassed in just eight games with the Black Hawks. The forward recorded 65 points in 109 appearances as a Youngstown Phantom. He also notched six goals and nine assists in 14 games with the Sioux City Musketeers.

Top Scorers Off the Radar

While the Black Hawks have five players among the USHL's seven leading point producers, two other Waterloo skaters are some of the best at their position when it comes to getting the puck to the net. Ian McCoshen and Mark Friedman are two of the league's top eight scoring defensemen. In his last eight games, McCoshen has accumulated two goals and eight assists and currently ranks fourth at 24 total points. Friedman has been a steady contributor; with a point in nine of his last 13 appearances, he sits eighth at 22 this season.

January Numbers

The Hawks delivered a mark of 6-3-1 during the first month of 2013. Newcomer J.T. Stenglein led the team in all scoring categories with eight goals (tied with Taylor Cammarata) and 13 assists. He and Cammarata were also each a team-best +11. Goaltender Eamon McAdam earned five victorious decisions in net, including two shootout wins. Waterloo outscored opponents by a total of 47-42.

Weekly Recap

J.T. Stenglein had a goal and an assist in the third period, helping the Black Hawks recover from a three-goal deficit last Friday before the Tri-City Storm edged the visitors 6-5 in overtime. Taylor Cammarata also scored twice during the matchup. Saturday, Waterloo recovered with two goals apiece from Mike Huntebrinker, Zach Stepan, and Ryan Papa, downing the Omaha Lancers 8-1.
