Portland Trail Blazers Assign Barton and Smith to NBA D-League Affiliate Idaho Stampede

NEW YORK, Jan. 6, 2013 - The Portland Trail Blazers today assigned guards Will Barton and Nolan Smith to the Idaho Stampede, Portland's NBA Development League affiliate. The assignments are the record 97th and 98th of the 2012-13 NBA and NBA D-League seasons, while Smith and Barton are two of a record 47 NBA players to have been assigned this season.

Barton (6-5, 170, Memphis) has appeared in 28 games for the Blazers this season, averaging 2.9 points, 1.4 rebounds and 10.1 minutes. Previously assigned to Idaho for two games in December, Barton returns to the Stampede with NBA D-League averages of 19.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 42.0 minutes.

Smith (6-2, 185, Duke) has played in 18 games for Portland this season, averaging 2.5 points, 1.2 assists and 8.2 minutes. A second-year player, Smith owns NBA career averages of 3.4 points, 1.3 assists and 11.1 minutes in 62 career games for the Trail Blazers.

Barton and Smith are expected to join the Stampede today and be available tomorrow when the team takes on the Texas Legends at 3:45 p.m. ET at the 2013 NBA D-League Showcase in Reno, Nev. live on NBA TV.
