Jamestown Jammers News Release

Jamestown, N.Y. (January, 4 2013) - The Jamestown Jammers and Pittsburgh Pirates today announced their minor league managerial and coaching assignments for the 2013 season. The announcement was made by Pirates Director of Minor League Operations, Larry Broadway. Dave Turgeon is set to manage Jamestown in 2013 after managing in State College in the New York-Penn League the past two years.

Dave Turgeon was drafted in the 22nd round of the 1987 amateur draft by the New York Yankees. He spent 13 years playing professional baseball in many different countries, before becoming a minor league manager. Turgeon actually began his professional career in the New York-Penn League with the Oneonta Yankees.

Turgeon will be joined on staff by Hitting Coach Kory DeHaan, Pitching Coach Mike Steele and Head Athletic Trainer Justin Ahrens. Jammers General Manager Matt Drayer expressed his excitement on the announcement, "It can be hard for some to think about baseball in January with the type of snow we have on the ground here in Jamestown. However, this announcement is another big step in preparing for our season. We are happy to have someone that has the understanding of managing in the New York-Penn league and hope that experience can translate to success on the field. Season tickets are on a sale and the planning is in full swing for Opening Day on June 20th.

The Pirates also announced their other minor league managerial assignments as well. Dean Treanor will return to manage Triple-A Indianapolis for a third straight season after leading the Indians to an 89-55record last year, which was the best record in all of Triple-A. Carlos Garcia has been promoted to Double-A Altoona after spending the previous two seasons with Single-A Bradenton.

Frank Kremblas will manage High-A Bradenton after spending 2012 as Pittsburgh's Special Assistant to Minor League Operations. Kremblas' last managerial stint was with Indianapolis in 2009 and 2010. Michael Ryan will take over the managerial duties at Class-A West Virginia after serving as a player/coach last year in Pittsburgh's minor league system.

Milver Reyes, who served as a player/coach last year, will take over the GCL Pirates, who captured their first league championship in 2012. Gera Alvarez, who managed the DSL II Pirates team to a league championship in 2012, returns for a second season, while Keoni De Renne, who was a player/coach for the GCL Pirates last year, will take over the reigns for Pittsburgh's other entry in the Dominican Summer League.

The Jamestown Jammers are the Class A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Jammers are Chautauqua County's only professional sports team. They are owned by a local Buffalo company, Rich Products Corporation, which also owns the AA Northwest Arkansas Naturals and AAA Buffalo Bisons.
