Sandy Hook Efforts

Thank You Fans

The Danbury Whalers organization is proud to announce our fundraising totals for this past weekend. We would like to thank our fans for all of their generous donations and contributions

Currently, the Danbury Whalers fan fund sits at $1235 and has been accumulated through the following:

Sale of merchandise - $525

In game promotions - $415

Miscellaneous contributions - $295

As an organization, we have seen an outpouring of interest and support towards this effort. While our initial plan was make it a one weekend focus, we feel that the Whalers as a central point of our community, we have a chance to raise more awareness and funds for this cause.

Our continuing efforts will include the following:

Throughout the season we will continue to sell the special edition Whalers t-shirt, the Whalers decals, and distribute ribbons.

As we have become aware of the various organizations and Sandy Hook Funds, we have found many causes that we would like to earmark the Whalers and Fan Fund towards.

Based on the suggestion of our Newtown fans, our first contribution will be to the Newtown Saving Bank Sandy Hook Fund.

We thank you again for all of your support.

Danbury Rugby Club Hits the DIA on Friday

This Friday December 28th will see the Danbury rugby team recognized for their undefeated 7-0 season in the Empire GU DII club competition.

The evening was supposed to be a celebration for the club, and while they remain proud of their accomplishment, a heavy cloud is hanging over the region these days.

So the evening of celebration has turned into something else. The team is selling tickets to the game ($15) to help raise money for funeral costs for the families affected by the tragedy. "There are several members on the team that have been directly affected by this horrific tragedy. We have to help this town." Says team President, Frank Rotovnik of Carmel, NY.

It's no surprise Danbury RFC has been able to take action in the wake of tragedy, as on the field and off, this season has been a successful one for the club.

Now the club, which is already running a fundraising project to buy book bags for African schoolkids, will operate as a unit to do something for a very hurt community and several of their teammates.

If you wish to donate to the Danbury fundraiser, you can send your donation to Danbury Rugby PO Box 952 Danbury Ct 06811 with the memo Sandy Hook.
