Jamestown Ironmen News Release

Your Jamestown Ironmen walked away with a 3-2 shootout victory over the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings in North American Hockey League play Friday night at the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena.

Jamestown (20-8-3) led off the game with a goal from Nico Sierra less than a minute into the first period. Assists came from Ryan Urso and Aaron Scheppelman and the Ironmen headed into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead.

The Ironmen took a two goal lead by adding another early goal in the second as Tyler Dunagan beat the Kalamazoo goalie less than a minute into the period off of an Urso assist.

Jamestown proceeded to let in a pair of Kalamazoo (19-10-2) goals late into the second and the two teams headed into the third period all knotted up at 2-2.

After a scoreless third period, the two teams entered a four-on-four overtime in which both teams failed to produce any goals.

Next came a shootout ended by Ironmen forward, Elliot Tisdale as he slipped one past the Kalamazoo goalie in the ninth round. Ross Pavek and Urso also scored in the shootout to help lift the Ironmen to victory.

Although the Ironmen gave the crowd at JSBA one heck of a show, Jamestown's Head Coach Dan Daikawa was not as ecstatic about the win as the fans.

"We had full control of that game and it shouldn't have been that close," explained Daikawa. "We let them back into the game when we should have shut them down and taken away their confidence for the weekend."

With the shootout victory, the Ironmen earned two points, but Kalamazoo also walked away with a point. Jamestown is still tied with the SOO Eagles for first in the NAHL North Division while the Jr. K-Wings sit only three points behind them.

Jamestown outshot Kalamazoo 33-26 as Reid Mimmack earned the win in goal for the Ironmen, making 24 saves on the night and improving his record to 16-5-1 on the season.

The two teams will meet again tonight with a 5pm faceoff. Tonight will be Mimmack's final game with the Ironmen, as he will be playing NCAA Division I hockey for Bemidji State University in January. The first 200 fans through the door will receive a Reid Mimmack trading card.

Any fans who drop of a toy to support the "˜Toys for Tots' program on their way into the game will receive a $2 discount on their ticket.
