Anaheim Bolts News Release
ANAHEIM, Calif. - It was a familiar story for the Anaheim Bolts on Sunday night, as the team excelled on offense while struggling defensively in a disappointing 17-12 loss to the visiting Turlock Express. While Bolts forward Adriano De Lima turned in another standout performance in the match, the Brazilian's quintet of goals was matched by opposition striker Ivan Campos, who powered an overall quality performance by his side.
In a tightly contested opening quarter, the visitors from Northern California got on the board first, Campos blasting a powerful left-footed volley past Bolts backstop Mike McAndrews to make it 1-0. Anaheim equalized in even more spectacular fashion moments later, as defender Orlando Alcaraz dribbled through the entire Express defense and topped off his stunning run with a move around goalkeeper Rafael Campos to slot into the open net.
Hugo Casillas also scored for Anaheim to put the hosts in front 2-1 at the end of the first quarter.
The fans at the Anaheim Convention Center Arena witnessed an attacking firework in the second period, a 7-3 Turlock run seeing the visitors jump out to an 8-5 overall lead. Express forwards Campos and Bronil Koochoie each bagged a brace, and their teammates Martyn Arista, Adrian Gutierrez and Jose Barajas found the net as well. On the other end of the field, Miguel Sanchez tallied for Anaheim and fellow Bolt Adriano de Lima had a pair of goals of his own.
Among the most memorable moments of the quarter were Turlock netminder Campos ' point-blank reflex to deny a wide open Casillas and De Lima's skillful chip to convert on a beautiful heel feed by Bolts teammate Jhonatan Bravo.
The game's fiercely contested third period saw each team tally four times, with two goals coming from Anaheim 's De Lima and Turlock 's Gutierrez also bagging a brace at the other end. The other pair of Bolts goals was scored by Bravo and Jose Rodriguez, with Campos and Koochoie finding the net for the Express.
Trailing 12-9 to start the final quarter, the Bolts never managed to build enough momentum to get back into the match, despite sacrificing goalkeeper McAndrews for several minutes and the outstanding De Lima contributing an additional three goals. Express attacking ace Gutierrez had another pair of tallies, and Samuel Saldate, Campos and Eric Aragon also fired home to complete a 5-3 run and a 17-12 final score line.
While Turlock looks to extend its four-game win streak in league play when it takes on hosts Sacramento on December 15, the Bolts hope to get their PASL season back on track in their road clash with the Arizona Storm that same night. The match will hold an additional challenge for Anaheim, as it will come right on the heels of the team's December 14 U.S. Open Cup first round match at the Anaheim Convention Center Arena.
Tickets start at $12 and may be purchased through Ticketmaster or the Anaheim Convention Center Arena box office. For more information, please call the Bolts front office at 714-321-9898 or the Anaheim Convention Center Arena at 714-765-8980.
