Five Rock Cats Added to Twins 40-Man Major League Roster

November 27, 2012 - Eastern League (EL) New Britain Rock Cats

New Britain, CT- The New Britain Rock Cats Baseball Club, the Double-A Eastern League Affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, had five of its players named to the Twins' 40-Man Major League Roster. Outfielder, Aaron Hicks, Catcher Josmil Pinto, Left-handed Pitcher Caleb Thielbar and Pitchers Kyle Gibson and B.J. Hermsen was added to the Twins Major League Roster. Catcher Chris Herrmann was added to the Twins active roster after the Rock Cats season ended and made his major league debut in September. In addition, the Twins agreed to terms along with an invite to major league spring training with Right-handed Pitchers Shairon Martis and Luis Perdomo, Outfielder Wilkin Ramirez and Infielders James Beresford and Deibinson Romero.

Hicks, batted .286 with 21 doubles, 11 triples, 13 home runs 61 RBI and scored 100 runs for the Rock Cats last season. He established a new franchise record for runs and triples in single season New Britain history. The speedy centerfielder spent most of the season as the Rock Cats leadoff batter and enjoyed a terrific first season in the Eastern League.

Pinto, joined the Rock Cats on August 22 after beginning the season at Class-A Ft. Myers where he was a Florida State League All-Star selection. The catcher hit a home run in second at-bat in Double-A, solo shot off Sea Dogs RHP Stolmy Pimentel, August 22 vs Portland. He batted .295 with 14 home runs, 60 RBI and scored 70 runs between New Britain and Ft. Myers last season.

Thielbar, pitched at three levels in the Twins organization last season and was with the Rock Cats from April 30-June 20. He also spent time at Single-A Ft. Myers and Triple-A Rochester. The lefty combined to post a 2.43 ERA with 74 strikeouts and just 21 walks in 48 appearances.

Gibson, spent most of the season rehabbing from "Tommy John" surgery after spending the 2010 season with the Rock Cats. The former Twins' first round pick has been pitching in the Arizona Fall League.

Hermsen, started the season at Ft. Myers before joining the Rock Cats on April 30. The Iowa native made 22 starts at New Britain and posted a 3.22 ERA and was an Eastern League All-Star selection. After his impressive season with the Rock Cats he was named Twins' Minor League Pitcher of the Year.

Martis, joined the Rock Cats on June 27 after being acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. He went 1-1 with a 5.68 ERA in four games (3 starts) before getting promoted to Triple-A Rochester on July 18.

Perdomo, was one of five Rock Cats to go from New Britain to Minnesota in 2012 (Pedro Florimon, Chris Herrmann, Darin Mastroianni, Lester Oliveros, Luis Perdomo). He went 4-4 with a 2.75 ERA in 26 games at New Britain and was promoted to Rochester on June 26. After pitching well for the Red Wings he joined the Twins and finished the season in the Major Leagues.

Ramirez, batted .388 with 4 home runs and 7 RBI in just 11 games with the Rock Cats before getting called up to Triple-A. He tied a New Britain franchise record by hitting a home run in four consecutive games, May 9-12.

Beresford, spent the entire 2012 season with the Rock Cats and batted .266 with 12 doubles, 3 triples and drove in 25 runs in 114 games. He played 60 games at shortstop and 53 games at second base at New Britain.

Romero, batted .267 with 23 doubles, 19 home runs, 78 RBI and scored 62 runs with the Rock Cats last season. He tied with Chris Colabello for the team lead in home runs and ranked second on the club in RBI. The third baseman smashed two home runs for the Rock Cats on April 12 at New Hampshire.
