SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Construction crews will begin to erect the steel frame of the Kaiser Permanente Arena tomorrow (Thursday) by mid-morning. Cranes will hoist the steel framework roughly 40 feet in the air to its resting position, capping off 50 days of work preparing the site for this phase of construction. This weekend, crews are scheduled to begin stretching fabric over the roof, and then the work will shift inside to the insulation, bleachers and hardwood.
"This is an exciting moment for all of our fans and a testament to what can be accomplished when working together with the City of Santa Cruz," said Jim Weyermann, President of the Santa Cruz Warriors. "It has always been our goal to open on time, which is no easy task, but our partner, Devcon Construction, is going to make it a reality."
Once the steel frame is erected, crews plan to add the roof fabric to the structure this weekend. Once the roof is in place, the steel walls will be erected and the entire external structure will be complete by late next week. Crews will then focus on the installation of bleachers, lighting systems, electrical hookup and basketball-related equipment, which includes the scoreboard, video playback and the new home team floor.
The Santa Cruz Warriors are the official NBA D-League affiliate of the Golden State Warriors.
