Stampede Weekly Update: Herd Look to Stay Perfect at Home this Weekend

The Sioux Falls Stampede (5-3-0) continue their five-game homestand this weekend with games against Sioux City and Tri-City on Friday and Saturday. It marks the first meeting of the season between the teams. Game times are 7:05 PM each night.

Sioux City enters the week with a 2-2-3 record while Tri-City is 2-4-1. Tickets are available at the arena box office.

Stampede lead USHL in attendance

The Stampede are proud to announce that through the first four weeks of the season, the Herd lead the USHL in attendance, averaging nearly 4,000 fans per-game!

The Stampede would like to thank all our terrific fans and sponsors for their great support. The club is working hard to build off this early season success at the gates and make sure your experience at our games is a good one!

Stampede stay perfect at home

The Stampede improved to a perfect 4-0-0 at home with a 4-0 shutout win over the Youngstown Phantoms last Saturday at the arena.

Jan Obernesser earned his first career shutout in goal with 18 saves while Tony Calderone, C.J. Franklin, Dennis Kravchenko and Thomas Forgione all scored in the victory.

Stampede ThunderStix giveaway on Saturday

The first 1,000 fans through the doors this Saturday when the Herd host Tri-City will receive a FREE pair of Stampede ThunderStix! Make plans to arrive early to assure yourself ThunderStix. Doors open at 6:15 and the drop of the puck is scheduled for 7:05 PM.

The Stampede have re-launched their mobile application for the iPhone and Android.

The Herd have teamed up with IMED Consulting in Sioux Falls to create the app which will bring fans closer than ever to their favorite team right from their phone.

The FREE app features 16 different sections, including schedule, events, roster, coach bios, live scoring and push notifications. The push notifications will alert you on any breaking Stampede news during the off-season as well as game reminders and post-game score alerts.

Darnell shines for Michigan State

Former Stampede forward Brent Darnell (2009-11) had a big night Saturday for Michigan State in their 3-3 tie with Niagara. Darnell's goal with 49.4 seconds left in regulation tied the game 3-3 for the Spartans. He also set up the goal that tied the game 2-2 and scored the only goal in the shootout (the shootout did not officially count in the record book) and had a team-high nine shots on goal.

Darnell is second on the team in scoring with three points (2g, 1a) in four games.

In other alumni news...

* Former goaltender Eric Hartzell (2007-09) ranks seventh in the country with a 1.09 GAA through five games for Quinnipiac. He made 24 and 21 saves respectively against Ohio State last weekend, earning a tie and a win. He is 3-1-1 with a .955 save percentage on the season.

* Jay Williams (2011-12) made 23 saves in a 4-3 overtime victory for Miami over Providence on Saturday. He is 2-0-0 with a 1.94 GAA and a .915 save percentage this season.

* Forward Jack Connelly (2007-08) has seven points (2g, 5a) in 16 games for Farjestads BK Karlstad in the Swedish professional league.

* Defenseman Zach Redmond (2005-07) has three points (2g, 1a) in four games for the St. John's IceCaps, the top affiliate of the Winnipeg Jets.

* Forward Andrew Carroll (2003-05) has five points (4g, 1a) in five games for the Idaho Steelheads, the "AA" affiliate of the Dallas Stars.
