Life After Kastles: Washington Players Back On Tour

After leading the Washington Kastles to their third World TeamTennis title in four years, all eight players who represented DC this season are grunting and grinding again on tour for the tail-end of the pro tennis season.

No Kastle has traveled as many miles in 2012 as Anastasia Rodionova, who ranked first in mixed doubles and second in women's singles during the WTT regular season.

Rodionova is headed to Las Vegas this week, where she will be the No. 4 seed at the $50,000 Party Rock Open, hosted by LMFAO singer and friend of the Kastles Redfoo. It's the Aussie's 28th tournament of the year, spanning 16 countries and five continents.

Second-year Kastle Arina Rodionova is set to return to action in the Party Rock Open singles qualifying draw, and she is expected to play doubles with sister Anastasia.

The No. 1 seed in Las Vegas will be Kastles substitute Edina Gallovits-Hall, who went 3-1 in women's singles for Washington after Rodionova left for the London Olympics.

Gallovits-Hall and Anastasia Rodionova are hoping to bounce back from three-set losses on Wednesday in the first round of the USTA Pro Circuit $75,000 tournament in Albuquerque.

The USTA Pro Circuit will soon welcome back WTT Male MVP Bobby Reynolds for a pair of $100,000 tournaments in California. Following two weeks of training, Reynolds will compete in Sacramento the week of October 1st and in Tiburon the week of October 8th.

The Kastles closer is one championship away from becoming the all-time winningest men's player in the 33-year history of the USTA Pro Circuit. Currently, Reynolds and DC native Paul Goldstein share the circuit record with 30 total titles.

Reynolds' Washington doubles partner Leander Paes returns to the ATP World Tour for an event in Bangkok beginning on Monday. The 13-time Grand Slam champion will team with Wimbledon runner-up Horia Tecau, who is set to become the 90th men's doubles partner in Paes' historic career.

Following his debut with Tecau, Paes will reunite with Radek Stepanek the week of October 1st for an outdoor hard-court tournament in Tokyo. Paes and Stepanek are 23-4 all-time on that surface, including runs to the Australian Open title and US Open final earlier this season.

Treat Huey, who won six sets as Paes' substitute, will be competing at next week's other ATP event in Kuala Lumpur. Huey and Dominic Inglot of Great Britain are seeking their second tour-level title after winning the Citi Open in DC last month.

Huey and a different Brit, Wimbledon champion Jonathan Marray, will join Paes and Stepanek in Tokyo the following week for their first tournament together.

Over on the WTA Tour, Washington wild card Raquel Kops-Jones and New York Sportimes substitute Abigail Spears are the No. 1 seeds in Seoul this week, and they're playing like it.

After defeating Catalina Castañ o and Eva Hrdinova 6-0, 7-5 in the first round, the Americans edged Darija Jurak and Katalin Marosi 6-2, 5-7, [10-8] in the quarterfinals. Kops-Jones and Spears followed those wins up in the semifinals on Friday with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over No. 3 seeds Natalie Grandin and Vladimira Uhlirova.

In the 10th WTA doubles final of Kops-Jones' career, she and Spears will meet either Tamira Paszek and Klara Zakopalova or Akgul Amanmuradova and Vania King on Sunday. The 20th-ranked Kastle and 21st-ranked Sportime have now reached four finals together in 2012, winning in Carlsbad and finishing as runners-up in Brisbane and Doha.

Two more WTA tournaments remain on Venus Williams ' 2012 calendar according to The New York Times. Fresh off winning three sets against the Sacramento Capitals on Sunday, the WTT Finals MVP will play in Beijing the week of October 1st and in Luxembourg the week of October 15th.

As always, the Washington Kastles' Facebook and Twitter pages are the places to be for all of the latest player results and schedules. Other exclusive content, such as the best photos from the 2012 season, is available to Kastles fans who follow the team on social media.
