Miners Win Frontier League ChampionshipSeptember 17, 2012 - Frontier League (FL) Southern Illinois Miners
The Miners scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning off Freedom starter Andy Clark. Jason Ganek hit a base hit to score Javier Herrera on an error by Freedom second baseman Pierre LePage to give the Miners a 1-0 lead. Then Chad Maddox hit a two run home run to give Southern Illinois a 3-0 lead.
Florence scored two runs off Nick Cicio in the top of the seventh inning and one run off Steven Grife in the top of the eighth inning to tie the game at 3-3 and move the games to extra innings.
Darrin Tew pitched three innings in relief for the Miners and only gave up one hit and struck out one batter. The Miners finally won the game in the bottom of the 12th inning as the bases were loaded and Freedom reliever Brent Choban walked Jake Kaase to bring in Chad Maddox for the game winning run and RBI.
Darrin Tew received the win for the Miners and Brent Choban suffered the loss for the Florence Freedom. Congratulations to the Southern Illinois Miners for bringing home the Frontier Cup!
