LOWELL, MASS. - The Lowell Spinners, Class-A Affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, in conjunction with Merrimack Valley Distributors, are pleased to present the first ever Lowell Spinners Oktoberfest and Family Fun Day, Saturday, September 15 at LeLacheur Park in Lowell.
The event, which will take place from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., is an Open House of sorts at LeLacheur Park, with families welcome at this non-traditional beer tasting event.
"We are thrilled to open up the ballpark on this beautiful September day for another non-traditional event," said Spinners President and General Manager Tim Bawmann. "While most Oktoberfests are geared toward adults, it wouldn't be a Spinners' event if the family component was not involved."
The highlight of the day is the beer tasting, as each adult ticket includes five beer sample tickets. Over 11 different breweries will be on hand with nearly 60 different brews available for sampling. Breweries range from regional titans Samuel Adams, Narragansett and Harpoon, to smaller breweries such as Slumbrew Brewing Company out of Somerville, Mass. and Baxter Brewing from Lewiston, ME.
Other participating breweries include: Blue Hills Brewing Co. (Canton, Mass.), Blue Moon, Shipyard, Woodchuck, Asahi (Japan), Leinekugel, Mike's Hard and a number of German style beers that no Oktoberfest would be complete without.
In addition to the beer tasting, there will be live entertainment throughout the afternoon, with four local bands slated to play. Rock and Roll will be served by The Corsairs, fronted by Lowell Sun sports writer Chaz Scoggins, as well as AllRoads Quarter, Feed the Bird and Pop Piller.
Families are invited to bring their gloves and a ball to play catch in the outfield, while the Swampland Kids Area and Thomas the Tank Engine train rides will be available throughout the afternoon free of charge.
Tickets for the event will be available the day of the event, with gates opening at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, 21 and older, while tickets for those aged 5-20 are $5 and kids 4 and under are free.
