Reno Bighorns to Play Preseason Game in Winnemucca

RENO, NEV., September 12, 2012 - The Reno Bighorns will face off against the Idaho Stampede for a preseason exhibition game in Winnemucca, Nev., on November 19, the team announced today.

The two West division rivals will be playing at Albert Lowry High School, located at 5375 Kluncy Canyon Road, with the game starting at 7 p.m.

This game marks the first-ever preseason game for the Bighorns, who are heading into their fifth season of play in Reno.

"We are excited to bring the NBA brand of basketball to different parts of northern Nevada," said Bighorns president Mike Reynolds. "Not only is this great for Bighorns' fans, but is also great to help get our players into game shape right before the season."

The Bighorns are working closely with the Winnemucca Century Club and Chad Peters, the varsity boys' basketball coach, to bring the Bighorns "Show on the Road" to the town.

"We think that having a NBA-affiliated team in northern Nevada is a great thing," said Peters. "Why not try to bring that excitement out to the rural areas as well? We are very thankful that the Bighorns and the Stampede are willing to share this experience with us."

Peters added, "High school basketball is a big deal in Northern Nevada and we love the idea of having professional basketball showcased out here for all the rural kids to experience as well. Basketball has a strong history out here and we are very happy to be adding something like this to it."

While both teams are in Winnemucca, players and coaches will be making community appearances, along with Bruno, the Bighorns mascot, and the Lady Bighorns dance team.

"We are the perfect product to bring to Winnemucca," said Bighorns head coach Paul Mokeski. "We offer great family entertainment, and I can't wait for the new fans in Winnemucca to see the level of professional basketball that the Bighorns play."

The Bighorns, who are affiliated with the Sacramento Kings, the Memphis Grizzlies and Utah Jazz, had three players get called up to the NBA last season: Andre Emmett, Bobby Simmons, and Blake Ahearn. The Bighorns also had five former players in the NBA playoffs last year, including Simmons, Ahearn, Jeremy Lin, Steve Novak, and Danny Green.
