Metro Youth Football to Call Titans Facility Second Home

September 7, 2012 - Indoor Football League (IFL) Cedar Rapids Titans

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA: Being active in the community has been the mission for the Cedar Rapids Titans since the team was announced last August. Beginning this weekend the Titans will have made another stride in that mission by providing a 2nd field location for Metro Youth Football at the team's new Hiawatha facility, the Eastern Iowa Sports Complex.

MYFA was founded in 1971 and has served the Cedar Rapids metro area for 41 years . This organization is dedicated to youth sports and specifically to youth football. Each year MYFA brings together over 2,500 young people and hundreds of adult volunteers to participate in and learn about both flag and tackle football in a wholesome, safe, structured, and fun environment. MYFA considers competition healthy and instructive but de-emphasizes the importance of winning and instead promotes the importance of participation. MYFA is governed by a board of directors made up of coaches and interested volunteers .

Games will continue to be played at MYFA's main location located off of A'Hearn Drive in Cedar Rapids. The Eastern Iowa Sports Complex will provide one additional lighted field to host six games each weekend beginning this Sunday through the end of October. The complex will also serve as a site location for Metro Youth Football's annual tournament that draws youth teams from throughout the region. Games kickoff each Sunday afternoon and are open to the public. Games are free to attend and concessions are available.

"We could not be more excited about this year's coat drive," said Chris Kokalis, Titans & Eastern Iowa Sports Complex co-owner and general manager. "We exceeded our goal last year collecting over 250 coats and this year are shooting for 400. We are also excited about showcasing our community based facility and celebrating the kickoff of the football season."

Local businesses are also encouraged to participate and the Titans will have someone come to that business to collect the coats the day of the coat drive.
