Mobile BayBears News Release

The Mobile BayBears fell 5-3 to the Tennessee Smokies Monday night at Smokies Park. Tennessee scored three runs in the first inning and two in the second to take a 3-2 lead. Mobile scored two runs in the third and one run in the seventh, but ultimately the BayBears could not overcome the early deficit. Monday's loss was the third in the first four games against the Smokies, snapping a streak of three straight series wins for Mobile.

In the bottom of the first, Matt Szczur and Logan Watkins led off the frame with back-to-back singles and scored on a three-run home run from Jae-Hoon Ha. In the second inning, Chad Nobel scored from third on a wild pitch from BayBears starting RHP Mike Bolsinger, giving the Smokies a 4-0 lead. Tennessee's fifth run came on a RBI single from Watkins that drove in Smokies starting LHP Dae-Eun Rhee.

Matt Mangini put Mobile on the board in the third with a two-run double that plated Evan Frey and Alfredo Marte. Frey crossed home plate for the BayBears again in the seventh inning on a bases loaded walk to Mangini.

The BayBears and Smokies conclude the five game series Tuesday, August 28, with first pitch scheduled for 6:15 PM Central.
