Pablo Campos Named NASL Offensive Player of the Week

August 20, 2012 - North American Soccer League (NASL) San Antonio Scorpions

San Antonio, TX (August 20, 2012) - San Antonio Scorpions forward Pablo Campos has been named North American Soccer League Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two goals against the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Sunday night to help the Scorpions clinch a playoff spot.

Campos beat Tampa Bay defenders and goalkeeper Jeff Attinella in the 18th minute to give the Scorpions a 2-0 lead early in the first half and then converted a penalty kick in the 28th minute to bring his goal total to a league-best 18 this season.

The Brazilian forward still leads the league in goals and points (39).

"Beating the keeper on that first goal was a great individual move preceded by a great team effort," Scorpions Head Coach Tim Hankinson said.

Campos is now just two goals away from matching last year's NASL Golden Boot winner Etienne Barbara's total from last season (20) with six regular season games remaining.

This is the fifth time Campos, who was named the NASL Player of the Month for July, has won Offensive Player of the Week this season.

The first-place Scorpions will now embark on a three-game road trip that begins with a match against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers this Saturday, Aug. 25. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CT.
