JetHawks Drop Third in a Row, 7-3

August 19, 2012 - California League (CalL) Lancaster JetHawks

SAN BERNARDINO, CA - The JetHawks suffered their third loss in a row and their 16th over the last 24 games, dropping Saturday night's game to the Inland Empire 66ers, 7-3, at San Manuel Stadium.

Down 7-2 in the eighth, Lancaster tried to rally but only managed one run. Carlos Perez led off with a triple and scored on an Alex Todd ground out. Relief pitcher Lay Batista followed with two walks but Erik Castro struck out against closer Ty Kelley to end the inning.

Kelley pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his fourth save.

Much like Friday night, the JetHawks jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the third against starter Aaron Meade. Jonathan Meyer started the inning with a double, Todd was hit by a pitch and Andrew Aplin drove in Meyer with a base hit. Todd came in on a Domingo Santana single.

Meade (1-0) retired the next seven batters he faced and left the game after the fifth. The left-hander allowed just three hits and struck out six without a walk.

In the bottom of the third Jean Almanzar started with a single, Taylor Lindsey walked and Ryan Jones followed with a run-scoring single. An errant throw from Santana in right field allowed Lindsey to score and Jones to move to third. He would score on a Kaleb Cowart ground out to second to put the 66ers ahead, 3-2.

In the bottom of the fifth Inland Empire doubled their score against David Martinez (7-5). Again, it was Almanzar who started the inning with a single. Jones reached on a fielder's choice and both runners scored on a Cowart double. Randal Grichuk later drove in Cowart with a double to chase Martinez. The right-hander allowed six runs - five earned - in 4 2/3 innings. He walked one and did not strike out a batter for the first time this season.

Lindsey drove in Brennan Gowens with a double in the sixth against reliever Jose Trinidad for Inland Empire's final run of the game.

Carlos Quevedo tossed two hitless innings in relief for the JetHawks.

Lancaster (62-62, 25-29) will look to avoid the sweep on Sunday night against Inland Empire (59-65, 28-26) at San Manuel Stadium. Blair Walters (0-2, 10.38) will start for the JetHawks. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 pm.
