August 17, 2012 - National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) Chicago Bandits
ROSEMONT, Ill. - Entering the third game of this series tied at one game apiece, and the regular season winding down, the Bandits looked to continue their success against the Diamonds following last night's 2-1 victory.Michelle Moses (0-3) started in the circle for the Bandits going up against the Diamonds Angel Bunner (4-7).
The Bandits struck first in the bottom of the second following a sac fly by Shannon Doepking to score Kristen Butler. They continued the scoring streak in the third after Butler drove in Vicky Galindo and Megan Wiggins giving the Bandits a 3-0 lead.
The Diamonds made a bid to score their first run of the game as Amy Hooks doubled to open the top of the fourth and was waved around off a Jazlyn Lunceford single up the middle but was thrown out at the plate after Wiggins threw a perfect strike from center field. Lunceford would later score off a double by Amanda Kamekona, making the game 3-1.
Wiggins and Alisa Goler both picked up RBIs in the bottom of the fourth as the Bandits took a 5-1 heading into the fifth. Angeline Quiocho responded for the Diamonds, driving in a run in the bottom of the inning. With Diamonds runners on first and second, Chanda Bell came into relief and retired the next two batters, putting an end to the inning.
GiOnna DeSalvatore's two-run homerun in the top of the sixth tied the game at 5, bringing Michelle Moses back into the circle for the Bandits.
A two-run homer by Wiggins in the bottom of the sixth gave the Bandits the lead back as they went up 7-5. However, their lead wouldn't last for long as Carolina took the lead off an Amy Hooks RBI single to score Mejia, making it 8-7.
"I was happy with the pitches I threw, even in the last inning," said Moses. "Sometimes the ball has eyes of its own. It's frustrating but it's part of the game."
The Bandits were unable to capitalize in the bottom of the seventh as they fell to the Bandits for the second time in the series by a score of 8-7.
The Bandits will take on the Diamonds in the regular season finale tomorrow at 7:35 p.m. CDT.
