Charleston Battery News Release

Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery faces the Dayton Dutch Lions in its final match of the USL PRO regular season on Saturday night at Blackbaud Stadium; gates open at 6:00 PM with kick off set for 7:30 PM. The Battery (12-10-1) enters the game in third place in the USL PRO standings and has secured a berth in the post-season but depending on the weekend results could finish as high as second or as low as sixth. Dayton (4-10-8) is eliminated from playoff contention.

Saturday's game will be broadcast live on 1340 AM plus there will be thirty-minute post-game show featuring Charleston Battery head coach Mike Anhaeuser.

The top six teams in USL PRO advance to the postseason with the top two teams receiving a bye into the semifinal round on September 1. Charleston is currently one point behind the second placed Rochester Rhinos; both teams have one game to play. The third and fourth seeded teams will host quarterfinal matches on August 25.

The Battery defeated the Rochester Rhinos 4-0 in a game played last Saturday night in Rochester to secure a playoff berth. Former Rhino Tony Donatelli led the way scoring twice and adding an assist as the Battery halted a five match winless streak.

The Battery defeated Dayton by a score of one goal to nil in the only pervious meeting between the teams this year in a game played in Dayton back on June 2; forward Jose Cuevas scored the lone goal.

Charleston Battery head coach Mike Anhaeuser should have a full squad to select from with midfielder Navion Boyd returning to fitness and defender Kyle Hoffer back from serving a one game suspension.

The Battery has two players close to the top of the USL PRO scoring charts heading into the final weekend of the season. Nicki Paterson's 10 goals leaves him just one goal behind current leading goal scorer Orlando City's Dennis Chin and Jose Cuevas's 7 goals leave him four back.

Saturday's game sponsor is Piggly Wiggly and the first 500 children through the turnstiles will receive a complimentary mini soccer ball plus immediately following the match there will be a spectacular Fireworks display.
