Racers Explode into Action against Diamonds

Firestone Stadium, Akron, Ohio - July 28, 2012 - Sam Marder's (.313) solo home run began the Akron Racers offensive explosion in the second inning (five hits, four runs scored) in game one of the Saturday double-header against the Carolina Diamonds.Racers second baseman Nicole Pauly (.307) followed with a single and left fielder Taylor Schlopy (.165) sent her home with a two-run home run. Kelley Montalvo (.083) tagged along with a triple and was also sent home by Lisa Modglin (.297) for the fourth run of the inning.
The Racers would go on to win by a score of 7-1 over the Diamonds.
Racers pitcher Lisa Norris (4-6) held the Diamonds to only one run scored: a solo home run from Amanda Kamekona (.260). Norris had 12 strikeouts and held the Diamonds to only two hits in 25 batters.
The Diamonds went through Katie Burkhart (7-6), Amanda Locke, and Danielle Spaulding in the circle this evening.
Racers finished off the Diamonds with Modglin's fourth hit of the night scoring Schlopy to give the final score of 7-1 in the sixth inning.
The regular season scheduled second game of the evening begins in approximately 30 minutes and will be the third game of the series between the Racers and Diamonds.
