Strikers Tie NASL-Leading Scorpions at Lockhart

July 14, 2012 - North American Soccer League (NASL) Fort Lauderdale Strikers

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers (5W-6T-6L) took the lead in the 90th minute, but were denied a win by a last second goal from the San Antonio Scorpions (8W-5T-3L) to end the game at 2-2 on Saturday at Lockhart Stadium. Strikers forward Andy Herron and Scorpions forward Pablo Campos both scored two goals in the match. The Strikers move into a tie with the Carolina RailHawks for fifth place in the NASL standings with 21 points on the season. Their next game is on the road against Minnesota Stars FC on Wednesday, July 18, at 8:30p.m. EDT.

Andy Herron's free kick goal in the 90th minute put the Strikers up 2-1, but during stoppage time the Scorpions' Walter Ramirez found Pablo Campos in the penalty area. Campos was able to turn around Lance Laing and scored his second goal in the lower-right corner of the net to beat Strikers goalkeeper Matt Glaeser.

The Strikers opened the scoring in the 28th minute when Abe Thompson found Andy Herron with a long cross Herron was able to control and finish past Scorpions' goalkeeper Daryl Sattler.

San Antonio tied the game at 1-1 in the 58th minute when Campos took a pass from Esteban Bayona and fired hard and low to beat Glaeser on the short side of the net.

The game was very physical with a total of nine yellow cards and 27 total fouls called. Fort Lauderdale midfielder Alfonso Motagalvan was ejected after receiving his second yellow card in the 72nd minute. Both he and San

Antonio's Ryan Cochrane will miss their team's next game as Cochrance was also shown two yellow cards in the match and ejected in the 64th minute.
