Mobile BayBears News Release
The Mobile BayBears scored two runs in the top of the ninth to come from behind and defeat the Montgomery Biscuits 6-5 at River Walk Stadium Thursday night. The Biscuits took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but the BayBears tied the score at 1-1 when Bobby Borche ring recorded his first Double-A hit with a solo home run over the right field wall. After Mobile took a 3-1 lead, the Biscuits rallied with a four run sixth inning to reclaim the lead at 5-2, but Mobile came back, scoring one run in the seventh inning and two in the ninth to complete the late comeback. BayBear RHP Evan Marshall earned the win, pitching out of trouble in both the eighth and ninth innings.
Mobile RHP Michael Bolsinger returned from the disabled list to make his first start in over a month. Working on a limited pitch count, Bolsinger allowed one unearned run on two hits in two innings of work. The unearned run was scored when Omar Luna crossed the plate on a fielding error by Marc Krauss. After the solo home run by Borchering tied the game in the fourth inning, Chris Owings gave the BayBears a 3-1 lead in the top of the fifth, hitting a two-run double. RHP Brett Lorin took the mound in relief of Bolsinger and after working three scoreless frames, Lorin ran into trouble in the sixth inning as Montgomery scored four runs on five hits to take a 5-3 lead. Wladimir Sutil responded with his first home run of the season to cut the Biscuits lead to 5-4.
Still trailing by one in the top of the ninth inning, Ed Easley and Dan Kaczrowski reached safely with back-to-back singles. Easley would score on an RBI ground out to tie the game, and Kaczrowski crossed the plate on an infield single by Chris Owings, as Mobile took a 6-5 lead. Marshall retired the first two batters he faced in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Omar Luna reached safely and advanced to third base on a throwing error from Matt Davidson. Marshall earned his fourth win of the year when Ryan Garko popped out to second base, stranding the tying run at third base as Mobile held on for the win.
Mobile and Montgomery conclude the three game series Friday night with game three at River Walk Stadium scheduled for 7:05 PM. The BayBears return to Hank Aaron Stadium Wednesday, July 11, to open up a three game homestand vs. the Huntsville Stars at 7:05 PM.
