BayBears Outshine Stars in Doubleheader Sweep

June 10, 2012 - Southern League (SL) Mobile BayBears

After a two hour and one minute rain delay, the Mobile BayBears swept Saturday's doubleheader over the Huntsville Stars at Hank Aaron Stadium. The BayBears defeated the Stars 7-3 in game one and held on for a 7-6 win in game two. With both wins Saturday night and the second place Montgomery Biscuits game postponed, the BayBears extended their Southern Division lead to 3.5 games.

In game one, the BayBears lineup pushed across seven runs on six hits. Mobile took a 3-0 lead in the second inning and extended the lead to 7-0 after posting four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Ed Easley paced the BayBears offensive attack in game one, going 3-for-3 at the plate with 4 RBI. Righty Brett Lorin earned his second win of the season with a scoreless outing. Lorin allowed just four hits over five innings.

In game two, the BayBears scored all seven of their runs over the first two frames. Matt Davidson drove in five of Mobile's seven runs, going 2-for-2 at the plate with two home runs. Evan Frey and David Nick sparked the top of the BayBears lineup with two hits each in game two.

Right-handed reliever Bryan Woodall recorded the win, his first for the BayBears after throwing 2.1 innings, allowing just one run on two hits. Righty reliever Matt Gorgen earned his seventh save of the season to preserve the one-run win for Mobile. Right-handed pitcher Bryan Henry settled for a no decision after allowing four runs on nine hits 3.2 innings.

The BayBears and Stars continue with game four of the five game series on Sunday, with first pitch scheduled for 2:05 PM.
