Generals Sweep Pensacola in Double-Header

JACKSON, TENN. - The Generals swept the double-header with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (25-30) on Friday night at Pringles Park, taking game one, 6-1 and game two, 2-1 in 10 innings. The Generals (33-22) won four of the five games in the series and are 11 games above .500 for the first time in 2012. Jackson holds a 3 1/2 game lead over Huntsville in the North Division
Game 1: Generals 6, Blue Wahoos 1
The Generals scored five runs in the first inning. Jesus Sucre claimed two RBI's on a single to right when Nick Franklin and Denny Almonte came in. Chih-Hsien Chiang reached base and scored on Pensacola's two errors in the inning. Kalian Sams then hit his fifth home run of the season over the left field wall. Sucre scored on the play.
Jackson added to the lead in the sixth inning after Pensacola's Daniel Corcino walked in Sucre.
The Wahoos tallied their lone run in the fifth inning on an RBI double by P.J. Phillips.
Sucre went 4-for-4 in the game, scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 more. Starting RHP Brandon Maurer (3-1) tossed a complete game, the first of the season, allowing four hits while striking out five.
Game 2: Generals 2, Blue Wahoos 1 (10 innings)
In game two, four Generals relievers combined to allow only three hits. RHP Jandy Sena started on the mound for Jackson and struck out four in 4 1/3 innings.
After nine scoreless innings, the Wahoos struck in the 10th inning on an RBI groundout by Chris Berset.
The Generals retaliated in the bottom frame against reliever Justin Freeman. Jesus Sucre reached first on a grounder to center field, then Joe Dunigan walked in a pinch hit effort. Both runners advanced into scoring position after a wild pitch.
Francisco Martinez then hit a 2-run single to right field to end the game in dramatic fashion. RHP Steven Hensley (2-2) secured the win after pitching three complete innings and striking out four.
The Generals will travel to Chattanooga on Saturday to begin a five-game series against the Lookouts. RHP Taijuan Walker (4-1, 2.23) will take the mound for Jackson against LHP Aaron Miller (3-4, 5.10) for Chattanooga.
