May 17, 2012 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Edmonton Elks News Release
(Edmonton) The Edmonton Eskimos have signed import running back Cory Ross, the club announced today.
Ross was signed by the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2006. He played for the Ravens in 2006 and 2007; playing in 10 games rushing for 72 yards and one touchdown. Ross also spent time returning, he recorded 342 yards on 18 kickoff returns and 73 yards on 18 punt returns.
The Denver native had a great college career at Nebraska where he rushed for 2,743 yards which ranks ninth on the Cornhuskers all-time list. He also earned an Honorable mention All-Big 12 (2004) and a Second team All-Big 12 (2005). Ross has spent the last two seasons with the Sacramento State Mountain Lions after he signed in 2010; he was named the 2010 UFL Offensive Season MVP.
Eskimo General Manager Eric Tillman says, "Cory is a runner with great patience and vision; but, when he hits the hole you see his quickness. He's also a very good receiver. Cory's success in the UFL was notable. That league's overall talent is probably not appreciated in our country because of the lack of television exposure, but the UFL was full of former NFL players, including Daunte Culpepper, who was the starting quarterback for the Mountain Lions."
