RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA - Bobby Doran picked up his team-high fourth win of the season as the JetHawks took advantage of two costly Rancho Cucamonga Quakes errors and won the rubber of the three game series, 6-4, on Wednesday afternoon at The Epicenter.
Doran (4-2) allowed three runs on five hits in six innings. Doran retired 15 batters in a row after allowing doubles to the first three batters of the game. Leon Landry, Joc Pederson, and Scott Wingo hit the doubles to put the Quakes up 2-0.
In the second, Alex Todd stroked his first hit of his season with the JetHawks. With Rafael Valenzuela at first, Todd knocked a double into the left-centerfield gap to score Valenzuela and put the JetHawks on the board.
The scored stayed 2-1 until the sixth inning when the JetHawks jumped on top. With two out, Rene Garcia hit a double down the leftfield line to score Valenzuela and Todd.
Rancho Cucamonga tied the game in Doran's final inning. Landry led off with a double, stole third base and scored on a Pederson sacrifice fly.
Doran left the game with the score tied 3-3 but the Quakes helped him get the win with two costly errors in the top of the seventh. With one out, Adam Bailey doubled and Domingo Santana singled him to third. Erik Castro followed with a high pop fly down the left field line that was dropped by the shortstop Charlie Mirabal for an error. Bailey scored to put the JetHawks ahead.
Telvin Nash followed with a groundball to third. Santana, who had moved to third on the error, attempted to score. The throw from the third baseman C.J. Retherford was low and catcher Michael Pericht was charged with an error for not handling it and applying the tag.
Valenzuela scored Castro with a RBI-single for the final run of the inning.
Jose Trinidad pitched two scoreless innings without allowing a hit and Kirk Clark notched his fourth save by striking out the side in the ninth.
Reliever Freddie Cabrera (1-2) picked up the loss, allowing five runs - two earned - in his worst outing of the season. Quakes starter Brandon Martinez gave up one run in five innings.
The JetHawks (20-20) will head to San Bernardino to take on the Inland Empire 66ers for a three game series starting Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm. Tyson Perez (2-0, 1.64) will start against Lay Batista (1-3, 4.86).
