P.E.I. Rocket News Release
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League has unveiled its 2012-13 season schedule. As in previous years, all teams will play 34 home games and 34 games on the road. Opening night has the 2012 President Cup Champions, Saint John Seadogs hosting the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on Thursday, September 20. Although the season starts 2 weeks later than other years, the regular season still ends on Sunday, March 17.
The PEI Rocket open their season at home against the Moncton Wildcats on Friday, September 21 and they host the Halifax Mooseheads two days later. These dates were requested by the Rocket to allow them to kick off opening weekend with a festival type environment.
Trent Birt, PEI Rocket VP of Operations, says, "We are going to have some events planned in conjunction with select games throughout the year, much like we did a few times last year. Our focus is on making ours games the place to be for the overall fan experience of what happens on and off the ice. We feel it is important to kick things off with a bang and our opening weekend schedule is conducive to this. Moncton and Halifax are traditionally two good draws for us with our natural rivalry with the Wildcats and of course everyone wants to see Nathan MacKinnon. Aside from the two games, we will have other festivities throughout the weekend to launch our tenth anniversary season."
As usual, the vast majority of games are scheduled on the weekends with 10 on Fridays, 5 on Saturdays and 10 Sunday games. The Rocket changed their Sunday start time to 3 o'clock after getting feedback from fans.
"We have had fans tell us the 4 o'clock starts weren't convenient for various reasons and we listened. We applied to the league for a change and they granted us permission to start an hour earlier."
Season Tickets and Flex Packs are now on sale through the Rocket office (892-7349) or the team's website (www.peirocket.com). A number of new incentives have been added to next year's packages to increase the value of each with no price increase. Get your tickets before June 15 and become eligible for one of two Extra Early Bird Prizes, including a trip for two to Montreal.
