Generals Split Double-Header with Smokies Monday

KODAK, TENN. (MAY 14, 2012) - The Generals split a double-header with the Tennessee Smokies on Monday night at Smokies Park, dropping game one, 15-4 and winning game two, 3-1. The Generals (23-16) win the series taking three of the first four in the series. Jackson ends the night up a 1/2 game in the Southern League North standings.
Game 1: Smokies 15, Generals 4
In game one, the Generals allowed a season high in runs (15) and hits (13) falling to Tennessee 15-4. The Smokies tallied seven doubles in game one, including two homers
After a leadoff walk in the first to Junior Lake, Jackson starter James Paxton grooved a fastball to Logan Watkins and he homered to right putting Tennessee on top 2-0.
Steven Proscia hit the first of his two home runs in the top of the third and brought the Generals within a run at 2-1, but that was as close as it got in game one.
The Smokies went on to score three runs in the third, six runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth inning to take a 15-2 lead.
Jackson did not go down without some fight scoring another run on the second solo homer from Proscia in the fifth and a 2-RBI single from Jesus Sucre in the seventh. Jackson fell 15-4.
James Paxton (3-2) suffered the loss and allowed five runs on three hits, two home runs over three innings. Paxton walked four and struck out two. Trey McNutt (1-3) picked up the win for Tennessee.
Eric Campbell, Steven Proscia and Gabriel Noriaga collected two hits apiece in game one.
Game 2: Generals 3, Smokies 1
In game two, Eric Campbell belted a solo shot to right-center in the top of the first to put Jackson up 1-0. The homer was the third for Campbell.
Kalian Sams hit a 2-run home run, his third of the year in the top of the second inning and Jackson went up 3-0.
The Smokies took advantage of a walk and two hit batsman from Taijuan Walker scoring a run on an RBI single from Elliot Soto in the bottom of the second inning to cut the lead to 3-1.
Generals' starter, Walker left the game after 2.2 innings with an injury after allowing one run on three hits, striking out three and walking one. Relievers Brian Moran, Bobby LaFromboise and Carter Capps combined for 4.1 scoreless to hold down the victory. Moran (1-2) picked up the win tossing 1.2 scoreless and Capps earned his third save firing 1.1 scoreless in the sixth and seventh.
Daniel Carroll and Denny Almonte collected two hits each in the second game.
The Generals wrap up their five-game series Tuesday against the Tennessee Smokies, with first pitch set for 10:30 a.m. CT. RHP Brandon Maurer (2-0, 3.46) will take the mound for Jackson against RHP Dae-Eun Rhee (3-1, 4.50) for Tennessee.
