Jackson Generals News Release

PENSACOLA, FL - Jackson starters James Paxton and Taijuan Walker combined to allow just two unearned runs over 11 innings in Thursday's double-header. Jackson though split the double-header with Pensacola winning game one, 3-1 and dropping game two, 1-0. In game two, the Generals were shutout for just the first time during the 2012 season. Despite the split, Jackson still remains two games ahead of Huntsville in the North standings.

Game One: Generals 3, Pensacola 1

After being held hitless in game one until the fourth inning, Francisco Martinez singled and was sacrificed to second base by Nick Franklin. Joe Dunigan plated Martinez with a single breaking the scoreless tie and Jackson didn't look back.

Jackson took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning on a single by Johermyn Chavez scoring Chris Pettit who tripled prior. Jackson went ahead 3-0 on a run scoring single by Franklin in the sixth inning.

Pensacola loaded the bases and brought a run in during the bottom of the sixth inning, but scored no more. Stephen Pryor struck out two in the bottom of the sixth and two more in the seventh to earn his seventh save in seven chances.

Pryor saved game one for James Paxton (3-0). Paxton struck out five and walked two, allowing just one unearned run on three hits. Pedro Villarreal (1-2) suffered the loss for Pensacola in game one.

Francisco Martinez was 2-for-3 with two runs scored in the first game.

Game Two: Pensacola 1, Generals 0

General's starter Taijuan Walker (3-1) was brilliant, but suffered the loss. Walker allowed just one unearned run on five hits over 5 2/3 innings, striking out two and walking two. Pensacola starter Daniel Corcino (2-1) blanked the Generals over six innings to earn the win.

The Blue Wahoos scored a run in the bottom of the sixth on a two-out RBI single from Brodie Greene that scored Henry Rodriguez from third. That was all the Wahoos needed.

In game two, Chris Pettit saw his eight game hitting streak come to an end and Joe Dunigan had his seven game hitting streak snapped.

The Generals look to even back up their five-game series with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos on Friday night at Maritime Park, with first pitch set for 7:00 p.m. The Generals will send RHP Brandon Maurer (1-0, 4.15) to the mound against RHP Tim Crabbe (1-1, 4.44) for Pensacola.
