
Generals Up Winning Streak To Six Games Saturday

JACKSON, TENN. - The Generals won their sixth straight on Saturday night, moving to 17-7 on the season and look for a five-game series sweep over Tennessee on Sunday afternoon. Johermyn Chavez led the way for Jackson going 4-for-4 at the plate with the homer two runs and two RBI. Joe Dunigan added a 3-for-4 night at the dish with his league leading seventh home run and two RBI. The Generals maintain their four-game lead in the North Division standings.
The Generals started the scoring in the bottom of the third inning on a single by Francisco Martinez that scored Johermyn Chavez. Martinez ended the night 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Jackson added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI triple from Chris Pettit and RBI single by Chavez. The Generals jumped out to a 3-0 advantage.
The Smokies tied the game at 3-3 on a two-run homer from Mike Burgess and RBI single by Jae Hoon Ha in the top of the fifth inning.
The Generals went back ahead 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth on a run scoring single by Joe Dunigan.
Chavez belted a solo homer in the sixth and Joe Dunigan added another long ball in the seventh to increase the lead to 6-3.
The Smokies would add a run in the eighth inning against reliever Jandy Sena. Stephen Pryor pitched the final 1 2/3 innings to lock down his sixth save in six opportunities. He saved it for starter Brandon Maurer (1-0). Maurer allowed three runs and six hits over five innings, striking out three and walking three. Brian Moran earned his third hold of the season with no runs allowed in 1 2/3 innings and increased his scoreless innings streak to 11 2/3. Smokies starter Dallas Beeler (0-1) suffered the loss.
Rich Poythress (11 games) and Denny Almonte (9 games) had hitting streaks come to an end on Saturday.
The Generals close their five-game series with the Smokies on Sunday afternoon at Pringles Park, with first pitch set for 2:05 p.m. The Generals will send LHP Danny Hultzen (2-2, 2.08) to the mound against RHP Dae-Eun Rhee (1-1, 5.73) for Tennessee. Fans can bring their Church bulletins the park on Sunday and buy one, get one free tickets.
