Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release
PORT CHARLOTTE - A pair of trouble innings spelled doom for the Charlotte Stone Crabs against the St. Lucie Mets on Tuesday, as Charlotte dropped the final game of their three-game series 6-1.
The Mets completed the sweep with the victory, continuing their mastery of Charlotte and improving to 6-0 against the Stone Crabs this season. Leading the charge was Mets starter Gonzalez Germen (1-0), who pitched into the sixth and allowed just one run while striking out five.
A three-spot in the top of the third for the Mets against Charlotte starter Enny Romero (0-1) sealed the deal. Romero worked five innings, allowing just those three runs while striking out five and walking one.
Blake Forsythe's double was followed by a walk and a hit batsman to load the bases. A sacrifice fly by Robbie Shields gave the Mets their first run of the frame. With two on and two out, Wilmer Flores pop-up that dropped in shallow right field for a two-run double.
The Mets added another three runs in the bottom of the ninth, giving them exactly six runs for the fifth time in their six victories against Charlotte this year.
The Stone Crabs plated their only run of the game on a fifth inning RBI groundout by Ty Morrison and have now scored just that one run in their last 26 innings.
Charlotte will be off on Wednesday before opening a six-game stint at Roger Dean Stadium, beginning with three games against the Jupiter Hammerheads. Righty Albert Suarez will take the mound in Thursday's opener. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
