(LANCASTER, CA) - Telvin Nash hit his California League leading sixth home run but it wasn't enough as the Lancaster JetHawks failed to sweep the Lake Elsinore Storm on Sunday afternoon. The Storm won 7-5 before a crowd of 2,416 at The Hangar.
Nash's home run, a solo shot in the fifth, came off Storm reliever Robert Lara to tie the game 5-5 in the fifth inning.
The Storm scored two runs - one earned - off JetHawks reliever Andrew Robinson in the seventh inning to take the lead for good.
Centerfielder Rico Noel reached third on a Cory Spangenberg groundball after getting on with a bunt single and stealing second. With two outs, Robinson struck out Michael Wing swinging but the pitch got away from catcher Ben Heath allowing Noel to score the Storm's sixth run.
On the very next play, Jonathan Meyer committed a throwing error on a Connor Powers groundball allowing Wing to score the final run of the game.
Noel, who batted leadoff for the first time in the series, reached base three times, stole three bases and scored three runs in the game.
Robinson took the loss to fall to 0-1 on the season.
The JetHawks chased Storm starter Matt Andriese in the bottom of the second when they scored four runs on five hits against the right-hander. Erik Castro, Rafael Valenzuela and Ben Orloff all had RBI-singles.
Lake Elsinore outfielder Luis Domoromo tied the game in the top of the fourth with a three-run home run to right field off Lancaster starter Wes Musick. Musick allowed five runs - four earned - over five innings of work. The left-hander struck out seven and walked one.
With the loss the JetHawks fell back into a fourth place tie with the Storm at 3-7. The first place High Desert Mavericks come to The Hangar Monday night for the first of a three game series. David Martinez will start for the JetHawks against Anthony Fernandez. First pitch is at 7:00 pm.
Monday night is "$1 Dog Monday" presented by Hebrew National. Hot dogs will be sold for $1 all night long.
