Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - Bobby Doran tossed seven scoreless innings and the Lancaster JetHawks hit three home runs in a 4-1 win over the Lake Elsinore Storm on Saturday night.
Shortstop Jiovanni Mier led off the bottom of the first with his first home run of the season and George Springer hit a two-run shot later that inning to put Lancaster up 3-0 in front of 1,447 on a cold night at The Hangar.
The three runs were plenty for Doran. The Texas-native struck out seven without allowing a walk and gave up seven hits, many of which were bloopers or weak groundballs. Doran picked up the win to improve to 1-0 and lowered his ERA to 3.27.
Lancaster's fourth run came courtesy of Erik Castro in the fifth inning. The designated hitter hit his second home of the season off Lake Elsinore starter Mark Pope.
Pope allowed four runs over five innings and picked up the loss to drop his record to 0-2.
The JetHawks were in line for a shutout but with runners at first and second and two outs in the ninth, centerfielder George Springer dropped the potential game-ending fly ball to extend the ninth and allow a run to score. Jorge De Leon followed the error by striking out Rico Noel to finish the game.
The win is the second in a row for Lancaster (3-6) and the team will have the chance to sweep Lake Elsinore (2-7) in the series finale Sunday afternoon at 2:00pm. Left-hander Wes Musick (1-0, 0.00), who threw five scoreless innings to pick up the win in his last start at Rancho Cucamonga, will start against right-hander Matt Andriese (0-0, 2.25).
The first 1,000 kids through the gates at Sunday's game will receive a free hot dog, chips and a soda as part of the JetHawks Kids Eat Free Sunday promotion. Families will also be welcomed on to the field before the game to play catch and kids will have the opportunity to run the bases once the game is over.
Great JetHawks ticket packages and single game tickets are on sale now. Special group discounts are also available. For more information please visit www.jethawks.com or call the JetHawks box office at (661) 726-5400.
