Erie, Pennsylvania, Thursday, March 22 - The Erie BayHawks returned home from a four game road trip to face the Eastern Conference leading Canton Charge. The two teams were neck and neck through three quarters but Canton was able to pull away in the final frame, downing the BayHawks 109-92.
Canton (26-18) was able to rush out to an early six point advantage before Erie (22-20) battled back to tie the game midway through the first quarter. The BayHawks closed out the first frame with a six point advantage behind eleven points from newcomer Joey Graham. The BayHawks grew their lead to 12 at the six minute mark of the second quarter before Canton went on a 15-4 run to end the first half with a two point lead.
Erie kept it close in the third quarter, never trailing by more than six. The Charge, who were aided by nine third quarter points by NBA assignment player, Luke Harangody, took a four point lead into the final stanza. Canton would go on to outscore the BayHawks by 13 points in the final frame and took the game by a final score of 109-92.
Graham paced the BayHawks with 23 points in his Erie debut. Kyle Goldcamp became the team's all-time leading rebounder, surpassing Erik Daniels, with an 18 point and five rebound effort. Kyle Spain added 16 points off the bench and D.J. Kennedy and Tyrone Brazelton both pitched in with a dozen points each. The Charge were led by two reserves, Kyle Gibson (24) and Frank Hassell (23). Harangody finished with 18, Alan Anderson scored 12 and TJ Cambell added 11.
Erie will travel to Dakota to face the Wizards in an important series on Sunday. Canton will head to Springfield to play the Armor on Saturday. Erie will return home on Friday, March 30 to square off against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants on Faith and Family Night, presented by Saint Vincent and WCTL.
