Luke Stauffacher Signs Deal with IceMen

March 8, 2012 - Central Hockey League (CHL) Evansville IceMen

EVANSVILLE, IN.--- Facing their most important weekend game action in this 2011-12 Central Hockey League season, the Evansville IceMen have effected a major player move expressly to elevate the club's status and overall presence in their quest with zest to capture the CHL Turner Conference crown and first-ever league post-season playoff berth.

On this date, the IceMen General Manager/Head Coach Rich Kromm has announced the contract signing of right wing LUKE STAUFFACHER for the balance of the current 2011-12 CHL campaign. Adhering to club policy, terms of the pact were not disclosed.

STAUFFACHER (STOFF-ah-kurr), 31, is in his eighth pro season, having attained service in exemplary standing in the ECHL, UHL, IHL and CHL. In the current 2011-12 season, he saw some limited action in the ECHL with the Cincinnati Cyclones. In the two previous years, he performed his craft in the CHL with the Tulsa Oilers in 2009-10 and the Odessa Jackalopes in 2010-11.

The diminutive 5-8, 180lb dynamo enjoyed his best two pro seasons with the Quad City Mallards of the UHL in 2006-07 and the IHL Muskegon Lumberjacks in 2008-09. With Quad City, the American-bred from Madison, Wisconsin fired a career-high and team best 42-goals, adding 29-assists for 71-points and +21 rating. Always playing with a serrated edge style and profile, Stauffacher accumulated 221-PIM in that same season. In 2008-09 in Muskegon, he sparked and spurred his team to the tune of a career-high 80-points on 39-goals, 41-assists, along with 129-PIM. His all-out Stauffacher style sparked and spurred the underdog Lumberjacks to the IHL Turner Cup Championship Finals as he delivered 7-goals and 8-points in 11-post-season appearances.

GM/Coach Kromm is looking forward to having his newest forward in the lineup this weekend. "Luke is a proven team leader and a tough, hard-nosed character-type guy who has the ability to make some significant contributions to our team. He plays power play, kills penalties and has a good scoring touch. He is fiercely competitive and plays the game without any fear. We are looking forward to having him in our lineup coming up this weekend at Fort Wayne."

Stauffacher launched his pro career in 2004-05 in the ECHL with the Peoria Rivermen, being signed right off the campus of the U. of Minnesota-Duluth where he enjoyed four standout seasons with the Bulldogs.

His best season at UMD came in the 2003-04 campaign when he engineered 35-points in 47-games on 17-goals, 18-assists along with 54-PIM.

Prior to his collegiate career, Evansville's new right wing achieved four highly-proficient years in the USHL with the Green Bay Gamblers.

Stauffacher will make his IceMen premiere appearance this weekend at Fort Wayne where the IceMen will clash with the Komets in a two-game series to break the tie for first place atop the Turner Conference standings. Presently, both teams have identical records of 58(36-18-4) 76-points with 8-games remaining on the regular season slate. Game one is set for Friday night at 7:00 pm CST; game two is on the docket Saturday night at 6:30 pm CST. Both games will be broadcast on flagship home WEOA-AM 1400, 1400amweoa.com and the IceMen Radio Network; WMSK-AM 1550, Morganfield, KY and WITZ-AM 990 and WITZ-FM 104.7, Jasper, IN.
