Louisville Lightning host first PASL playoff game in franchise history Friday night

March 2, 2012 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) - Louisville Lightning News Release

LOUISVILLE, KY -- The Louisville Lightning host their first PASL playoff match in franchise history Friday, March 2, at 7:30 pm against the Kansas Magic. The Lightning secured home field advantage after earning second place in the Eastern Division with an overall record of 12-5. The winner of Friday night's game will advance to the PASL semi-finals against the top seed of the Western Division on Friday, March 9. The winner will play in the championship game March 10.

Over the course of the 2011-2012 season, the Lightning defeated the Magic three times, twice on the road and once at home. The Lightning also boast an impressive home record this year, with eight wins and only one loss, giving them high hopes for Friday's match. However, Kansas finished just behind the Lightning this season, third place overall in the PASL's Eastern Division, with a record of 8-8.

Co-owner and Associate Head Coach of the Lightning, Ted Nichols, could not be more proud of the players and the organization. "Hosting our first playoff game shows how far we have come in three short years," he stated. "We have been blessed with so many special players and from the ownership perspective we couldn't be more proud of the progress on the field."

The team also progressed greatly off the field over the course of the season. There was standing room only with a crowd of nearly 1,500 fans cheering the Lightning on during their final regular season match of the year.

"The fans we have are a major part of our success," said OT Yanez, a former standout on the University of Louisville Men's Soccer Team and second year defender with the Lightning. "Their support inspires us, helps us overcome obstacles, and play to the best of our ability. We have the best fans in the PASL, so this also gives us a certain intimidation factor over the other team."

Friday's game also features a free kids' zone, free parking and shuttle bus services at the Mellwood Arts Center, $1 Budweiser products until the end of halftime as part of the Yellow Cab Happy Hour, entertainment from the Lightning DJ and Lightning Ladies Dance Team, and non-stop action on the field with some of the best soccer players in the region!
