Legends Caravan Continues with Stops Wednesday in Richmond and Lexington

The Lexington Legends' annual pre-season caravan continues with stops in Richmond and Lexington Wednesday, February 8. At each stop, Legends' staff members and "Big L" will greet visitors, who will have an opportunity to win tickets to the first home game of the 2012 season, along with Legends souvenirs. Several special baseball guests will also join the caravan.

The schedule:

Wednesday, Feb. 8 - Richmond: Noon- 3 p.m., Powell Building at Eastern Kentucky University.

Guests in Richmond:

Legends' Hall of Famer Josh Anderson, a former EKU and Legends star who played in the major leagues with Houston, Atlanta, Detroit and Kansas City will join the Legends contingent, along with

EKU baseball coach Jason Stein and some current Colonel players.

Wednesday, Feb, 8 - Lexington: 5:30 - 7 p.m. Show-Me's Restaurant, 1973 Bryant Road (Hamburg area). Several current and former professional players will join the Legends and "Big L" at Show-Me's.

Scheduled guests include, in alphabetical order (Schedules subject to change, and other guests may be added.) :

Willie Blair - Paintsville native and former Johnson Central High and Morehead State University star pitched in the major leagues from 1990-2001 with eight teams...compiled a 16-8 mark with Detroit in 1997 and was 10-6 with the Tigers in 2000...after coaching in independent baseball, joined the San Diego Padres' organization and served in 2011 as the pitching coach for the Fort Wayne TinCaps, the Padres' affiliate in the class A Midwest League...will return in that assignment for 2012.

Andy Green - Former Lexington Christian and UK star reached the major leagues as a player with the Arizona Diamondbacks and New York Mets...going into his second year as a manager in the Arizona system...will manage the Diamondbacks' Pioneer League club in Missoula, Montana, where he began his professional playing career in 2000.

Jeff Parrett - the new head baseball coach at Woodford County High School was a star pitcher at Lafayette High and the University of Kentucky who went on to pitch for 11 seasons in the major leagues, highlighted by a 12-4 mark with Montreal in 1988 and a 9-1 record with Oakland in 1992.

Ben Revere- former Lexington Catholic star made his major league debut with the Minnesota Twins in September of 2010, and played in 117 games for the Twins in 2011, batting .267 with 34 stolen bases. Revere was a first round draft pick in 2007 and was the Twins' minor league player of the year in both 2008 and 2009. He led all of minor league baseball with an average of .379 in 2008.

Alan Stein- former president and CEO of the Legends who led the effort to bring minor league baseball to Lexington and then headed the front office for 11 years.

The caravan gives the Legends an opportunity to show appreciation to fans and media throughout the region. The caravan will travel to Jackson February 15 and Danville February 16. Details on those stops will be released later.

The Legends, members of the class A South Atlantic League, are affiliated with the Houston Astros. The Legends open the 2012 season Thursday, April 12 at 7:05 p.m. at Whitaker Bank Ballpark against the Kannapolis Intimidators, an affiliate of the Chicago White Sox.
