Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

The Waterloo Black Hawks filled the net in a Sunday matinee matchup against the Des Moines Buccaneers, taking a 7-3 decision on home ice at Young Arena.

Des Moines struck for opening goal of the game on a bad bounce during a power play 7:06 into the action. Anthony Greco's centering pass bounced off of Jamie Hill and into the Waterloo net. The Hawks tied the score at 15:56 when Vince Hinostroza set up Scott MacDonald who rifled a shot under the crossbar from the hash mark. The Hawks took their first lead a little more than two minutes later as Tyler Zepeda converted a wraparound chance. The edge did not last to intermission; with 9.9 seconds remaining, Justin Hussars' knuckling shot eluded Eamon McAdam to retie the contest.

The sides combined for four additional goals in the second, but this time the home team took the advantage for good. Tony Cameranesi nudged Waterloo back in front at 2:05, banking a shot in from below the goal line off the left pad of Jason Kasdorf. Ian McCoshen blasted the Hawks to their first two-goal lead at the ten minute mark during a power play, beating Kasdorf with a shot inside the post to the goalie's left. Trent Samuels-Thomas got one back for the Bucs, speeding into the Waterloo zone for a low shot which squeaked through at 15:15. However, less than two minutes later, nifty passing between Taylor Cammarata and Ryan Papa left A.J. Michaelson with an open net, allowing the Hawks to reassume a two-goal cushion.

Neither team could convert any of the multiple power play opportunities early in the third, but Michaelson added to the lead at 15:32 of the final period. His shot to the top corner came on Cammarata's fourth assist of the night. The Hawks added one final score with 29.8 seconds remaining as Jake Horton flipped a puck to the net, which seemed to disappear into Kasdorf's pads but reemerged inside the cage.

The Black Hawks go on the road for their next game Friday versus the Sioux Falls Stampede. The next home game at Young Arena is Saturday against the Lincoln Stars.
