Skyforce Outlasts Armor in Christmas Thriller

Sioux Falls, S.D. (Dec. 25, 2011) - The Sioux Falls Skyforce defeated the Springfield Armor 103-99 in overtime Sunday night at the Sioux Falls Arena. Jerry Smith banked in a 3-pointer to force overtime but Sioux Falls outscored Springfield 14-10 in the extra session to improve to 12-10 all-time on Christmas.

Springfield (7-5) converted 14-of-24 field goals (58.3 percent) in the first quarter and led 35-21. Sioux Falls (5-7) held Springfield to 11 points in the second quarter and led 49-46 at halftime.

Dominique Coleman made a lay-up early in the final quarter to push the lead to 15 points (74-59) but Springfield would not go down without a fight and trailed by just one point (83-82) with 3:53 to go in the contest. Lance Hurdle missed a 3-pointer with 8.8 seconds to go that would have tied the game but JamesOn Curry secured the offensive rebound and found Smith for the game-tying shot with 4.7 seconds left. Charles Garcia missed two attempts in the final seconds and the game went into overtime.

Anthony Mason, Jr. scored six of his 22 points in overtime to help Sioux Falls improve to 4-3 at home.

Casey Mitchell scored a season-high 27 points while Garcia (22 points, 12 rebounds) and Mason, Jr. (22 points, 12 rebounds) each posted double-doubles.

Curry had a solid all-around game with 21 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Smith added 17 points, four rebounds and four assists in a reserve role.

Sioux Falls visits Iowa on Tuesday at 7 p.m. CT. Springfield continues their seven-game road trip with a matchup with Austin on Thursday at 2 p.m. ET.
