Aeros Drop One to Peoria in Shootout

HOUSTON --- Warren Peters scored his seventh goal of the season and Darcy Kuemper made 32 saves, but the Houston Aeros fell to the Peoria Rivermen 3-2 in a shootout Sunday at Toyota Center. The Aeros are a point out of the top spot in both the AHL and the West Division.

In the shootout, Justin Fontaine and Jeff Taffe scored for Houston, which is now 15-4-2-6 overall. The Aeros have standings points in 12 of 14 home games, including the last seven in a row, and in 12 of the last 13 overall.

Phil McRae scored the deciding goal in the sixth round of the shootout for Peoria.

Peters gave the Aeros a 2-1 lead at 13:15 of the second period after Matt Kassian tied the score at 1-1 with his first goal of the season at 8:23 in the first period.

Derek Nesbitt tied the score at 2-2 at 5:02 in the third period. T.J. Hensick gave the Rivermen a 1-0 lead at 6:39 in the first with a power play goal.

The Aeros finish their four-game homestand hosting the Texas Stars on Friday at 7:35 p.m. at Toyota Center. The game is the Aeros' annual Teddy Bear Toss and Toy Drive. Fans will receive free tickets to an upcoming Aeros game by bringing a new teddy bear or toy to the game.

Matt Kassian scored his first goal since April 2, 2011 at Chicago. ... Kassian's goal was also his first point of the season. ... Justin Fontaine has points in three of the last four games and four of the last six (3-1=4). ... Mike Montgomery, who played in his second game with the Aeros Sunday, picked up his first point after earning the second helper on Peters' goal.
