Jonathan Lessard suspended for 15 games; Remparts fined

BOUCHERVILLE, Tuesday, November 3, 2011 - The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Disciplinary Prefect, Raymond Bolduc today suspended Baie-Comeau Drakkar forward Jonathan Lessard for 15 games. The suspension was handed out after an incident which occurred during a game played on October 28 versus the Quebec Remparts.

Here is the rationale which led to this decision:

The player at fault was skating in the direction of his opponent to bodycheck him with his shoulder while his knee was bent forward. When his opponent changed direction to avoid him, the player at fault also changed direction and violently hit him with his knee. Due to the change in direction of his opponent, the distance between the two players did not permit the player at fault to hit his opponent with his shoulder. The player at fault kneed his opponent, causing serious injury. The incident is not the first for the player at fault.

Moreover, the Commissioner announced that the Quebec Remparts organization has been fined $2,500 due to comments made by General Manager and Head Coach Patrick Roy during the post-game press conference held on October 28.

"At no time will I permit that a staff member of a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League club make inappropriate comments toward League personnel especially in regards to their capacity to accomplish a mandate which I have given them," said the Commissioner.
