Tri-City Storm News Release


KEARNEY, Neb. - The Tri-City Storm have announced their 23-man roster for the 2011-12 regular season. General Manager/Head Coach Drew Schoneck made the announcement Thursday morning following the team practice.

The Storm will have 24 players on the roster, as defenseman Dylan Maller has been added to the USHL injured-reserve list after not being available in the preseason due to injury.

The list of forwards include: C Tim Bonner, RW Kenny Brooks, RW Andrew Dorantes, LW Justin Henry, C Soren Jonzzon, C Nick Lappin, RW/C Tim Lappin, LW Heikki Liedes, C/RW Davey Middleton, LW Trevor Moore, RW/C Sean Murphy, LW Thomas Nykopp, LW Brad Schierhorn, and RW Michael Vecchione.

The list of defensemen include: John Hrabovsky, Greg Johnson, Dylan Maller, Josh McArdle, Sean O'Rourke, J.D. Peterson, Bryan Sinz, and Dalton Spicer.

The two goalies will be Pheonix Copley and Trevor Gorsuch. Gorsuch, 17, was added to the Tri-City Storm today from the St. Louis Amateur Blues U18. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound goalie was one of the one of the top five goalies in midget major hockey last season with 17 wins (17-0-2), 1.97 goals-against average and a .920 save-percentage.

The regular season opens at home on Friday, September 30 for the Storm against the Sioux City Musketeers (The Breeze 94.5 FM) at the Viaero Event Center.

Tri-City Storm - 0-0-0, 0 pts (tied for 1st in Western Conference)

- C Nick Lappin, who enters his third season in the USHL and second with the Storm, is expected to return to lineup against Sioux City after being absent from the preseason due to minor injury

- Lappin (co-Captain), D Dylan Maller and D Dalton Spicer did not play a game in the preseason due to injuries... Spicer is expected to be back in the coming weeks... Maller has been added to the USHL IR until Oct. 30

- The Storm finished the preseason 1-for-18 on the power play and 19-for-21 on the penalty kill

- C Soren Jonzzon, who led the Storm in scoring last season with 39 points (17g, 22a), had three goals in preseason in five games

- LW Thomas Nykopp, the Storm's first pick (2nd overall) in the 2011 USHL Entry Draft, led the team in the preseason with 26 penalty minutes in five games

- The Storm are 4-6-1 all-time in home openers

Friday, Sept. 30 vs. Sioux City Musketeers - 0-0-0, 0 pts (tied for 1st in Western Conference)

- Sioux City is led by second year defenseman Jordan Schmaltz, who is regarded by most as the preseason favorite to repeat the USHL's defensive scoring title after posting a league-high 44 points (13 goals, 31 assists) by a defenseman... Schmaltz had 28 points (8 goals, 20 assists) on the power play last season, which was only second to league scoring champion Blake Coleman... Red Line Report, who ranks NHL draft eligible players, has Schmaltz ranked 16 in their preseason publication

- New to the mix in Sioux City is first-year General Manager/Head Coach Brett Larson... Larson was the assistant coach with the NCAA Div. I Ice Hockey Champion - University of Minnesota-Duluth last season

- RW Brad Robbins is the top returning forward for the Musketeers with 34 points (13g, 21a) in 42 games last season after coming midseason from the Penticton Vees (BCHL)
