Alabama Hammers News Release

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Alabama Hammers latest signee will feel right at home in the Von Braun Center's Propst Arena.

Former Vipers quarterback Kevin Eakin - who threw for 2,654 yards and 43 touchdowns in the Arena Football League last season - has joined the Hammers as they look to bounce back in the second half of the Southern Indoor Football League season.

"Kevin is an experienced quarterback and we are glad to have him on the roster,'' Hammers coach Marty Hammond said. "He gives us another veteran presence that will help the young guys."

Eakin (6-foot-1, 225 pounds) helped lead the Vipers to the 2008 arenafootball2 championship, throwing for 2,515 yards and 51 touchdowns in 12 regular season games and another 704 and 11 scores in the playoffs.

The former record-setting Fordham quarterback completed 433 of 553 pass attempts for 3,945 yards with 85 touchdowns and six interceptions in 2009 for the late Tennessee Valley franchise.

The Hammers were scheduled to play at Mobile on Saturday, but that game was forfeited by the Tarpons. Now Alabama (1-5) will prepare to host Carolina on May 6 at the VBC. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and the first 1,000 fans 15-and-under will receive a kid's jersey compliments of Huntsville Hospital and TOC.
